LIGHT FESTIVAL 2019

Jardin des Plantes lantern festival is back for a new edition. Océan en voie d’illumination, this is the theme expecting you this year from November 18, 2019 to January 19, 2020. After a bright success last year with Espèces en voie d’illumination that saw 370,000 visitors in two months, this new magical and enchanting installation will likely take you to an enchanting world again.

A stroll by night that turns into an atypical experience to enjoy with friends and family to discover the monumental light structures set in the alleys and on the pitches of the Jardin des Plantes.

The stroll starts at the place Valhubert where giant lanterns representing creatures gone for 65 million years and species currently threatened. In 2019, the festival will focus on ocean species to go along with the Océans exhibition and we can already see ourselves meet with polar bears or penguins. We already met a great white shark.

All in all, 50 monumental light structures we can discover all along our walk, staging 4 different sea universes. The travel starts with a « Promenade on the tropical shore » and continues with a « dive into hot waters » then the « mysterious abysses » to end with a « swim in cold waters ».

We then discover the mysterious abysses filled with unknown species using surprising stratagems to survive in a rather austere environment. We finish our stroll on a much more poetic note, heading to the frozen lands of the poeles where we find cute creatures such as penguins and a family of lovely polar bears.
