La Cité du Vin - Bordeaux (Bacalan district)
Inaugurated in 2016, La Cité du Vin is a cultural center entirely dedicated to wine, located on the banks of the Garonne River in Bordeaux. Its bold architecture, in the shape of a vine stock or wine in a glass, makes it a strong visual landmark in the Bassins à flot district. This unique venue offers an immersive experience revolving around the history, cultures and civilizations of wine.
Background and experience
The main exhibition area covers more than 3,000 m² and features a permanent interactive tour with 19 themed modules. Films, olfactory devices, sound terminals, workshops and digital displays enable visitors to discover wine-making traditions from all over the world. Temporary exhibitions, lectures and wine workshops (also in English) complete the offer. Access includes a climb to the belvedere on the 8ᵉ floor, with a panoramic view of Bordeaux and a glass of wine or grape juice.
Students and accessibility
The Cité du Vin attracts a wide audience, including many students interested in the culture, history and sensory world of wine. It offers reduced rates for young people aged 18 to 25, as well as adapted workshops. The entire building is accessible to people with reduced mobility, with elevators, sound and visual systems.
