Vieille Bourse - Lille
The Vieille Bourse is one of the emblematic monuments of central Lille, located between the Grand'Place and Place du Théâtre. Built between 1652 and 1653, it represents a jewel of Flemish architecture from the XVIIᵉ century. The complex comprises 24 identical houses organized around an inner courtyard, richly decorated with garlands, volutes and sculpted pilasters.
Architecture and use
The building reflects the Flemish Mannerist style, a symbol of Lille's commercial prosperity at the time. Listed as a historic monument, the Vieille Bourse has been restored several times. Today, its inner courtyard is home to an antiquarian and second-hand book market, chess players under the arcades, tango balls and other summer events, making it a lively place all year round.
