Lille Zoo - Citadelle (Vauban-Esquermes)
Located at the foot of Lille's Citadelle, Lille Zoo is a 3.5-hectare urban wildlife park that opened in 1950. It is home to some 350 animals representing almost 80 species, divided into six thematic zones such as "Terres d'Afrique" and "D'île en île". The site is part of an educational and conservation approach, in line with European species preservation programs.
Animals, entertainment and atmosphere
Visitors can see red pandas, gibbons, tapirs, porcupines, exotic birds and many other rare species. The zoo offers regular events, including guided feedings, workshops, educational stands and activities for children. A favorite with families, it also attracts students for its accessibility, proximity to campuses and conditionally free admission.
Accessibility, rates and facilities
The zoo is accessible to people with reduced mobility, although some areas may be more difficult to access. On-site facilities include a picnic area, store and rest areas. Residents of Lille, Hellemmes and Lomme benefit from free admission with the "Lille & Moi" card. Reduced rates are available for students and young people.
