Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon - Lyon (1ᵉʳ arrondissement)

Housed in the former Palais Saint-Pierre abbey on Place des Terreaux, Lyon's Musée des Beaux-Arts is one of France's most important museums. With 70 rooms spread over 7,000 m², it boasts an exceptional collection ranging from Egyptian antiquity to modern art. The museum's prestigious setting includes a cloister, a peaceful garden and galleries spread over several floors.

Collections and ambience

The museum exhibits major works by Rubens, Rembrandt, Veronese, Géricault, Delacroix and Gauguin, as well as sculptures, objets d'art and antiques. Temporary exhibitions, guided tours, workshops and cultural events such as the Nocturne or Erasmuseum are organized on a regular basis. The atmosphere is calm, studious and ideal for art lovers, with mediation adapted to students and international visitors.

  • Opening hours: Wednesday to Monday, 10am to 6pm (Friday from 10:30am). Closed Tuesdays, public holidays, December 24th and 31st at 5pm.
  • Prices: permanent collections €8 (reduced €4), temporary exhibitions €9 (reduced €6), guided tours €11 (€7 for 18-26 year-olds), free for under-18s.
  • Student access: reduced rate with proof of enrolment, unlimited access for €5 with Beaux-Arts Campus membership (including workshops, tours and openings).
  • Accessibility: mediation in several languages, garden open daily from 8:30 to 18:30
  • Public transport: metro A or B, Hôtel de Ville - Louis Pradel station; bus C5, Terreaux stop
