Arc de Triomphe - Paris (8ᵉ arrondissement, Place Charles de Gaulle)
Erected by Napoleon Iᵉʳ in 1806 and inaugurated in 1836 after thirty years of construction, the Arc de Triomphe is a national monument celebrating French victories.
Architecture, views and ambience
Neoclassical in style, its impressive dimensions - around 50 m high and 45 m wide - make it one of the most imposing arches in the world. It stands at the center of the Place de l'Étoile, from which twelve major avenues lead off, offering a panoramic view of Paris. Its terrace overlooks the Champs-Élysées.
Visits, access and students
Access to the terrace is via an internal staircase. Full admission is around €22, with free entry for EU residents under 26. The site is located at a crossroads served by several bus lines and the Charles de Gaulle-Étoile metro station.
