Palais Garnier - Paris (9ᵉ arrondissement, Opéra)

A masterpiece of the Second Empire style, the Palais Garnier was designed by Charles Garnier and inaugurated in 1875. It symbolizes the grandeur of opera under Napoleon III, with its sculpted façade, allegorical statues and gigantic glass roof crowning the grand staircase.

Architecture, tours and student atmosphere

The self-guided tour takes in the Grand Escalier, the Nave, the foyer, the Glacier rotunda and the horseshoe-shaped hall (visible according to program). The sumptuous interior, with its colorful marble, gilding, 8-ton chandelier and Chagall-painted ceiling, makes for an impressive setting. Guided tours (1h30, approx. €23 full price, €16.50 reduced) are available to explore the site in greater depth. Young students can also take advantage of the Pass Jeunes (€20, reduced access to certain shows and free tour).
