Lyon is not only the capital of gastronomy. It also knows how to (re)serve the glasses of those who have an easy descent, provided you choose the right places to go out... Like these 10 streets that should leave your mouth slightly pasty.

1. Rue Sainte Catherine in the 1st arrondissement

Just 200 meters down the slopes of the Croix Rousse, a dozen rades follow one another. Here, thirsty students, night-owl neighbors, dogless punks and damsels on the town rub shoulders in a well-organized brothel that closes its doors at 1 a.m. every evening.

2. Quai Augagneur

Lyon's main thirsty street is actually a quay. The one that runs alongside the Rhône and is home to a whole host of barges with eclectic ambiances: electro, bobo, student... And if you haven't got your sea legs, well-watered lawns welcome party-goers, their dinghies and their sound systems, much to the despair of local residents who are insomniacs in spite of themselves.

3. Rue Pasteur in the 7th arrondissement

University nearby means thirsty students and a few good addresses to welcome them. Rue Pasteur is undoubtedly the best antidote to those rotten evenings spent watching TV. It's a great place to wander from one regular bar to another, with no time to lose.

4. Quai Rambaud at Confluence

The Confluence district at the end of the Presque île is the new Eldorado of Lyon's nightlife. Apart from the occasional drunken, slightly brawling soccer coach, there are plenty of trendy establishments in the area to make your blood alcohol level soar, along with your sense of beaugossitude. Not surprising, when you're on the Quai Rambaud!

5. Rue Saint-Georges in the 5th arrondissement

Old Lyon is anything but sleepy! Here, the locals hang out in the local pubs to harvest hops and remake the world to the aroma of Scotch whisky, all accompanied by musical jams in spaces that encourage bodies to come together.

6. Rue Saint-Jean in the 5th arrondissement

If rue Saint-Georges hasn't completely sawn your legs off yet, your nocturnal expedition should take you (on foot, as cars are forbidden, and given your condition...) to the many bars of rue Saint-Jean. The aptly-named "Mise en bières" and "Fleur du Malt" await you for a restless end to the night.

7. Rue Mercière and Rue de la Monnaie in the 2nd arrondissement

These two streets are as touristy as they are typical, alcoholic and even ethylic after dark. Here, the fork is willing, the elbow and the verb are high, and the glass is always half-empty... the better to refill it.

8. Quai Pierre Scize in the 9th arrondissement

We come here to drink like regulars or to forget that we've been dragged into a local trap: a karaoke bar, a pensioners' club, a swingers' club, or even worse, all 3 at the same time (#visiondhorreur).

9. Place Sathonay in the 1st arrondissement

The center of the world for the inhabitants of the Pentes, who by dint of walking them, have ended up with a good descent.

10. Quai Saint-Antoine and Quai des Célestins in the 2nd arrondissement

The banks of the Saône are a haven for young revelers, who come to remake the world, beers in hand and their gaze lost on the Fourvière hill. There's no need to bring your own sound system - your neighbors' will be more than enough to get the crowd going.
